Who applies
The employer, not the student. Students cannot apply on their own behalf.
Associate / bachelor
After completing the first academic year, part-time only.
Master / PhD
No first-year requirement; part-time work is assessed more flexibly.
Weekly hours
In practice up to 24 hours per week (undergraduate level).
Student status
Verified through YÖK (Higher Education Council) records; the province of study is taken into account.
Prohibited sectors
Entertainment and domestic services are closed to students.
Scholarship holders
Türkiye Scholarships require YTB opinion; YÖK scholarships require YÖK opinion.

Can international students work in Turkey?
Yes, under specific conditions. Students in full-time education at a Turkish higher-education institution may legally work part-time. Associate and bachelor students after completing the first year; graduate students without that requirement.
Does the student or the employer apply?
The employer. The business hiring the student opens the work permit application through e-Government. We run this process on the employer’s behalf and work with the student on the document side.
How many hours per week?
In practice up to 24 hours per week for associate and bachelor students. Graduate students are assessed more flexibly according to the employment contract.
Which sectors are closed to students?
Entertainment and domestic services. In other sectors a part-time permit can be obtained.
I have a student residence permit — do I still need a work permit?
Yes. A student residence permit does not grant the right to work; a work permit obtained through the employer is mandatory. Unregistered work carries penalties for both student and employer.
What happens if the student work permit is refused?
An appeal can be made to the Ministry within 30 days of notification. For structural grounds such as the first-year rule or the 24-hour limit, re-applying once the condition is met is the right route; for missing documents or employer criteria an evidence-based appeal is possible.
How long does it take?
With a complete file, typically 15–30 business days. An up-to-date student certificate and visible YÖK record shorten the timeline.
